Jim is really getting into the Chinese New Year spirit! Jenny is now telling him about certain superstitions and taboos that exist during the holidays.

Jenny: Are you a superstitious person?
Jenny:

Jim: Not really. But I know many Chinese are.
Jim:

Jenny: That's so true. There are many superstitions and taboos during the Chinese New Year.
Jenny:

Jim: Like what?
Jim::

Jenny: One superstition says that your home should be cleaned before New Year's Day. All brooms, brushes, dust pans and dusters must be put away. You should never sweep or clean on New Year's Day for fear that your good fortune will be swept away!

Jim: That makes sense.
Jim:

Jenny: All debts must be paid and you're not supposed to lend anyone money because that means you'll be lending all year.

Jim: But what happens if you're a banker?
Jim:

Jenny: Very funny! People should also refrain from using foul language and unlucky sounding words like the number four, which in Chinese, sounds like the word death! Anything that has to do with dying, death and ghosts is strictly taboo!

Jim: So I guess I shouldn't say that I'm dying to taste your mom's dumplings during this year's Chinese New Year dinner!
