Jeff and Kathy are having a chat about pop music and about how different age groups like to listen to certain kinds of music. |
Jeff: I noticed that pop music is very popular in Taiwan. Jeff:
Kathy: Yeah. It is especially popular with teenagers. A lot of people enjoy singing their favorite pops songs at KTV.
Jeff: There are so many different kinds of music, but I think that pop is the only kind of music that is heard regularly on radio and TV stations here. Even the western music that they play is pop.
Kathy: I think that it's because pop music really appeals to more listeners. If the tune is catchy and the lyrics are easy to understand, people can enjoy humming along.
Jeff: Well, I'm not a fan of pop music. Jeff:
Kathy: Neither am I. I think that it's mostly for adolescents. Many adults in Taiwan enjoy listening to classical music. Kathy:
Jeff: What did you listen to when you were a teenybopper? Jeff:
Kathy: I didn't listen to music when I was younger. I was always occupied with my studies, so I didn't even have time to listen to the radio! Kathy:
Jeff: What about the older generation? What kind of music did they listen to? Jeff:
Kathy: I'm not sure. Probably some golden oldies from mainland China! Kathy:
